Acupuncture for Women’s Health

Women’s Health

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine provide a holistic approach for all aspects women’s health, from menarche to menopause and beyond, treating conditions including irregular periods, mood swings, cramps, menopausal symptoms, infertility, bloating and more.

Often women accept things like painful periods, mood swings, or various menopausal symptoms as things that have to be endured. Acupuncture can offer solutions for women’s health where other therapies have not helped, naturally and without side effects.

How Acupuncture Works

I  always start the treatment through a careful examination of your primary health concern, but also your overall health. This allows your acupuncturist will to assess the imbalances in your body leading to your issues. By correcting the imbalances, acupuncture helps to balance your nervous system and hormones, leading to long term improvement.

Acupuncture understands the the natural fluctuation of qi, the body’s energy, throughout a woman’s life, and incorporates the balance of those forces as the basis for health.

Often, when dealing with hormonal imbalances we see involvement with the Liver, Spleen, and/or Kidneys. After the assessment is made through a series of questions, palpation of meridians, taking the pulse and looking at the tongue, points on involved meridians will be chosen according to the specific ways in which the organs need to be balanced.

Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine can also be used alongside conventional treatments such as IUI or IVF.  Research studies have shown an increase of conception when acupuncture is part of the regimen. Lower FSH, thicker uterine lining, and healthy progesterone levels are a few of the associated benefits of using acupuncture.

Acupuncture has a cumulative affect, so it is usually recommended to do a series of 6-10 treatments, one to two times per week, in order to see lasting change. In addition to acupuncture, the treatment series may include Chinese herbs, essential oils, moxibustion, and other adjunct therapies as needed.

When to Seek Acupuncture Treatment

Often women will seek acupuncture treatment when the symptoms have become unbearable. Of course, acupuncture is helpful in those situations, but how much better would it be to not have to get to that point?

The body can always use some balancing as everyday stressors take their toll on our hormonal balance. Also, people tend to find that with acupuncture treatment they end up feeling more energized, have easier menstrual cycles and a healthy sex drive that they did not even know were possible.

Feedback From our clients…

“I suffered from chronic neck pain for more than 4 yrs before being treated by Joseph Alban. As a registered Yoga teacher, I was looking for a treatment that did not involve a prescription medicine that treated only the symptom rather than the underlying cause of the problem. It was the first time I’d ever tried acupuncture and to my amazement Joe took the time to listen and answer any questions and concerns I had regarding my health. After several treatments I started to see results and after several months I was completely pain free! I highly recommend Alban’s acupuncture to anyone with chronic pain.”
