Joseph Alban

Joseph Alban is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Board Certified Herbalist whose personalized approach blends the concepts of Chinese Medicine and Western Physiology to specifically target the root of your problem.

Joseph completed a hospital residency at the First Traditional Chinese Medicine Teaching Hospital of the Hunan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2006. He trained with leading physicians in the acupuncture, Chinese medicine dermatology, and tui na (medical massage) departments. In addition to clinical training in China, he has worked at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. In 2012, he received the Traditional Chinese Medicine Dermatology Diploma from world renowned expert Mazin Al-Khafaji.

In 2009-2010 Joseph was awarded a training grant from the National Institutes of Health. He completed this training in the Mount Sinai School of Medicine’s department of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology. His research focused on the psycho-immunology of mental health, examining the potential of Chinese medicine to treat immune diseases and associated depression and anxiety simultaneously.

Joseph is the author of many journal articles and has been featured in magazines such as Time Out New York, Acufinder Magazine, and Acupuncture Today. He lectures regularly on how to use Chinese medicine for self healing.

He graduated from Touro College’s Graduate Program in Oriental Medicine in 2006, obtaining a Masters of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

In addition to maintaining a busy clinical practice, Joseph teaches and writes about Chinese medicine for practitioners as well as the public. He also plays Wu Style Tai Ji and is a fermentation enthusiast.

Our New York City acupuncture office, located at 40th and Lexington in Manhattan, was designed to create a beautiful and calming environment. It feels like home. Our office features specially designed sound panels which soften sounds in the office and prevent outside sounds from coming in. Its the perfect place for rest, healing, and wellbeing. Feel free to come early and enjoy a cup of tea before your appointment. We will respond within 3 hours during our normal business hours. We make our best attempts to schedule you as quickly as possible within your preferred time frame.

We have early morning and late evening hours to accommodate your busy schedule. We are very prompt with our appointment scheduled. We do not accept walk in appointments.

Office Hours:

Tuesday: Noon-8pm

Wednesday: Noon-8pm

Thursday: 11am-8pm

Saturday: 11am-3pm

We do not have appointments on Friday, Sunday and Monday.



Acupuncture is covered by many insurance companies in New York. Acupuncture has been used for centuries as a safe and effective treatment. Because acupuncture has been shown to be safe and effective treatment for a wide range of conditions, insurance companies are are more and more covering acupuncture.

We are in network acupuncturists with Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare.

We accept Aetna as an out of network acupuncturist. In addition, No Fault Automobile Insurances cover acupuncture.
