Acupuncture for Digestive Issues

Digestive Issues

Digestive problems are a common problem that millions of Americans face. Acupuncture can help many digestive issues such as Irritable bowl syndrome, Crohns and Ulcerative Colitis, Acid reflux, and more.  Acupuncture helps to improve gut motility, relieve abdominal pain, and improves gut microbiome diversity.

According to the World Health Organization, acupuncture for digestive problems is a safe and effective treatment. Acupuncture works by balancing the nervous system. This enables the body to digest food more effectively. Acupuncture also helps people manage stress.

Acupuncture has several benefits for the digestive system. First of all, it engages the parasympathetic nervous system, which increases blood flow to the digestive organs. This, in turn, encourages the production of digestive enzymes and increases intestinal activity. The procedure also relaxes sphincter muscles, which aids in digestion and can reduce acid reflux. In addition, the treatment can help reduce stress and anxiety, which can cause digestive problems.

Digestive disorders are common in the United States, where 70 million people experience digestive issues. Many of these conditions can be traced back to unhealthy eating habits or chronic stress. Digestive issues can also be linked to brain fog, and the bacteria found in the gut affect the brain’s ability to learn, sore memories, and feel happy. An imbalance in the digestive system hinders the removal of waste and generally makes you feel crummy. Acupuncture helps!

Acupuncture helps by improving the digestive function and gut movement, reducing inflammation, and calming the nervous system.

In addition, in acupuncture, we need to understand your sleep, joint and muscle pain, stress, frequency of colds, cycles, and energy levels to have a full picture of your health. Additionally, Unique to acupuncture, feelings of heat and cold reveal an underlying cause of heat (which is often inflammation in the gut), lack of circulation, or poor digestive energy. As a holistic therapy, acupuncture seeks to understand the whole person.

Generally, people with digestive issues need treatment to restore their body’s balance. Intestinal health is essential for good immunity and good energy production. Good digestion helps your body break down food and turns it into energy and nutrients.

Acupuncture works by improving gastrointestinal motility and acid. The stimulation of a certain acupoint promotes gastric peristalsis in individuals with low initial motility, whereas it suppresses gastric motility in individuals with high initial motility. This dual regulatory feature helps to restore the harmonious flow of qi and thus promotes the return of health.

The treatment will often include acupuncture points on the digestive meridians of the Spleen and Stomach. The ST 36 point in the tibia is one of the most common and helpful points for digestive issues. Spleen 6 and Spleen 9 on the inner leg are also commonly used along with Ren 12 and St 25 on the abdomen.

Acupuncture treatment is customized to your specific underlying imbalance for long term improvment.

Acupuncture Treatment for Digestive Issues

The acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine seek to address the underlying cause of your issue. Therapy is all customized to your specific symptoms. By considering all of your symptoms and your overall health, I will identify the imbalances that are the root cause of the condition.

Acupuncture that part of health is the healthy circulation of the body’s energy, called Qi. Strong emotions such as stress, anger, or frustration can cause the qi to slow down or get stuck. This lack of flow is called Qi Stagnation. If there is a weakness in the Qi, or a lack of digestive energy it is called Qi vacuity. Infections and inflammation can lead to the accumulation of toxins in the digestive system.

Different acupuncture points and herbs will be used for the different imbalances. Some points may be on the arms, legs, or abdomen. Sometimes we may even do acupuncture on your back to improve your digestion.

By reducing inflammation, improving motility, and calming the body, acupuncture can lead to long term improvements.

Feedback From our clients…

“I’ve had IBS for years. My gastro symptoms were getting serious and my gastroenterologist was out of ideas. Coming to this clinic was a WONDERFUL experience. After a few months, my gut is feeling better than it has in YEARS. I think I still have a bit to go, but I’ve experienced better improvements doing acupuncture with Joe than I have with anything else I’ve tried. I recommend him very highly.”
