Practical Acupuncture

Many people believe acupuncture is mysterious.  It’s not.   Acupuncture is practical because it works.  It’s not about the body’s energy or imbalances that are the root of your problem. It’s about feeling better and staying healthy.

Feel Better, Get Acupuncture

Acupuncture modelAcupuncture is about staying healthy.  The acupuncture works by reminding the body how to be healthy.

Acupuncture works on many levels. First it works where the problem is to release tight muscles and reduce inflammation.  It works to heal the connective tissue in the region and reduce trigger points.  Acupuncture also works within the central nervous system, in the brain, … Read More

How to Fix My Allergies that Ruin MY Bike Ride: Acupuncture Points

It finally warmed up here in New York (well kind of) and I was out for a bike ride in Central Park.  It was a beautiful sunny blue sky day.   The tulips are in bloom and buds on the trees are coming out.  Everyone is excited to get out on their bike or go for a walk in the park.

Spring is in the air.

Spring being in the air also means pollen is too.  During my ride, my throat became a little scratchy.  My eyes were becoming dry and irritated.   After I returned home, my sinuses felt full and … Read More

Headaches and Other Symptoms

A recent patient with headaches at my acupuncture clinic reminded me of the powerful way acupuncture treats the whole person.

She was coming in for tension headaches which were exacerbated by seasonal allergies.  Stress was also a major factor.

The acupuncture had almost an immediate effect in reducing the headaches.  After 4 treatments she had very little pain.

The following month this patient returned for follow up acupuncture treatment.  And she reported she did not have any PMS or cramps that month.

The acupuncture treatment was focused on the headaches, but correcting the underlying imbalance helped to heal the whole … Read More

Acupuncture for Chronic Sinusitis

Chronic rhinosinusitis is a chronic infection of the sinuses that causes nasal congestion, sinus pain, and headaches. Chronic rhinosinusitis, commonly called chronic sinusitis, affects your energy, sleep, and work. Some research suggest that chronic sinusitis can even lead to depression and anxiety.

Conventional medication often is not completely successful in treating the symptoms. Many patients have been turning to acupuncture Chinese medicine for help.  In our New York City acupuncture clinic, we often use acupuncture, acupressure, and herbs to reduce the symptoms of sinusitis, especially during the spring allergy seasons which can exacerbate the sinusitis symptoms.

Another Look at the Placebo Effect

For the last 50 years, the placebo effect has been a dirty word.  Real interventions make a physiological change in the body.   Placebos do nothing but convince the patient that something is different.   Reality states otherwise.  Ted Katpchuk, an acupuncturist and Chinese medicine doctor who focuses on the placebo effect in his research, wants to change all that.

In last week’s New Yorker, an article focuses on the placebo and the scholars who think about and examine the placebo.

What is a Placebo?

One of the difficult and fundamental questions is what is a placebo?  We’ve come to believe … Read More

Acupuncture for Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is mysterious.  It can come and go.  It can get worse, or get better.  Often without explanation.

Chronic pain is also very serious.  It interferes with work, school, and relationships.  Chronic pain is the most common issue that I treat and I have helped hundreds of patients reduce and relieve their pain. Pain can effect almost any place in the body: headaches, back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, knee pain, and any other location.
