Acne Healing Foods

The most important part of being healthy are your food choices. What you eat shows up in your skin and can help, or hurt, your acne.

Unfortunately, the common Standard American Diet (SAD) is terrible for your skin.

In addition to acupuncture for acne, I encourage all my patients to incorporate  food choices as part of a holistic treatment for acne.  Anti-inflammtory diets are helpful for many people with acne.

The great thing is that it is pretty simple to do.

Eat Low Glycemic Index foods:

The best acupuncture therapy for acne incorporates many techniques including:  acupuncture, cupping, Chinese herbal medicine, and LED light therapy.  By combining different natural therapies, the treatment addresses specific aspects of acne during the cycle of development. The ultimate goal of Acupuncture and Chinese medicine is to treat the root cause of the acne and bring balance to the body.

Customized For Each Patient

Not all acne is alike so treatment also needs to be personalized to the type of acne. Are there predominantly white heads and black heads, inflammatory acne, hormonal acne, or cystic acne? Is it hormonal acne?

Healing Power of Light Therapy

By Amber Milanovich, L.Ac.

Light is an amazing thing and holds strong healing powers. Light therapy uses specific wavelengths of light that can help fight acne, reduce wrinkles, promote anti aging, and reduce pain.  Light therapy is powerful alone and even stronger when combined with acupuncture.

Light therapy uses LED lights of blue, red, and infrared light to stimulate healing on a cellular level.  Light therapy can also be called Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT) or LED therapy, or even a fancy name of photobiomodulation.  All names for the healing power of light.

Why does Light Therapy (LLLT) work?

Acupuncture for Acne Success Story

Acupuncture helps heal the whole person, not just the skin.  In this success story I wanted to share about a young woman who was coming in for acne and IBS with constipation.

Her Story

The two conditions, acne and IBS-C, developed simultaneously after the patient was prescribed a long course of antibiotics to treat food poisoning which she contracted abroad. She had already finished the antibiotics as of the first visit.

Despite taking supplements, she still had frequent constipation, severe pain, and difficulty moving her bowels, and occasional loose stool.

Her acne did not vary with her menstrual cycle. … Read More

How Chinese Herbs are Prepared

Chinese herbal remedies have been used for centuries for many conditions and to boost overall health.   For many conditions the combination of acupuncture and herbs is the most effective approach.  I almost always use herbs when treating acne, eczema, psoriasis, and other skin conditions.

The current Chinese pharmacopeia contains more than 5000 herbs and medicinal products.  A pharmacy will most often contain 500-1000 of the most commonly used herbs.  Some of the herbs are only used in the region they are grown and are not easy to find elsewhere.

Chinese herbs are most often combined into formulas … Read More

Acupuncture for Adult Acne Treatment

Some think that only teenagers get acne.  But many adults, mostly women, develop acne in their 20’s and remain with it well into their 40’s.

Adult acne is a very common issue I treat in my acupuncture clinic. The combination of acupuncture,  Chinese herbs, Blue LED Light therapy, and cupping are very effective for adult acne treatment.

One theory is that stress causes hormone imbalances which effect the development of acne. Also, as many people know, the menstrual cycle can influence acne.

Acupuncture helps the body to manage stress and encourages the body to relax. Chinese herbs work to … Read More
