Boost your Qi with Kidney Three

Kidney 3

Kidney 3 is the third acupuncture point on the kidney channel.  It is called the Great Ravine (Tai Xi) in Chinese.

Kidney 3 acupressure point helps to boost the energy in the body.  Kidney 3 (KI 3) can help with many different conditions by boosting your kidney qi.

What is Kidney Qi?

Chinese medicine has it’s own language and physiology to discuss the body body.  Acupuncture meridians are associated with specific organs and the functions of those organs.  The Kidneys are in charge of growth and maturation, reproduction, as well as regulating the fluids of the body. That is they make urine.

Its important to note that Acupuncture organs are not  the same as Western Medicine organs.  So if there is a kidney qi weakness, it does not mean there is a problem with your kidneys. But there are overlaps with western medicine and Chinese medicine.  For example the Kidneys make urine in both medical systems.

Acupressure for Kidney 3

Rubbing kidney 3  can help with many problems associated with weak kidney qi.  One of the main uses is back pain. The kidneys are also important in reproductive health so rubbing kidney 3 may help with symptoms like fatigue, insomnia, PMS, infertility and reproductive health.

It works best for people with too little qi or energy.

Other imbalances such as Qi Stagnation, qi which is not flowing enough, you may choose other acupuncture points such as  LI 4 or SP6 does.

Location of Kidney 3

KI 3 is located just behind the inside ankle bone in the little dip of the ankle. To boost KI 3, gently massage in a small circle. with flat fingers. The point should feel warm and relaxed.  It is best to massage this point daily.

It is said that massaging qi boosting points daily for 100 days helps to strengthen the energy of the body. So get started and keep rubbing!
